What’s the difference between a nutritionist
and a dietitian?

The term nutritionist isn’t regulated, so technically anyone can call themselves one, even with no formal training, license, or certification. To become a registered dietitian (RD), all of the following are required:

  • A minimum four year college degree from an accredited university’s program that includes specific course work in human physiology, biology, organic chemistry, among other sciences

  • Completing 1,200 hours of supervised clinical practice

  • Passing a rigorous registration exam

  • Fulfilling ongoing continuing education

  • Adhering to a professional code of ethics

Bottom line- registered dietitians are licensed health care professionals that are able to assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutrition-related problems.

What does an initial session look like?

During an initial session, my first priority is to listen: to hear your story, motivation, apprehension, and what you’d ultimately like to achieve. We’ll discuss your medical condition(s), medications and supplements, recent labs, physical activity, and current diet.

Together, we’ll establish specific and attainable steps to reach your goals. I’ll provide diet education and help you to understand the nutritional relevance of any recent blood work you’re able to share from your physician. At the end of the session, you’ll receive a clear and personalized protocol, along with supplemental material to reinforce discussed topics. Initial sessions last approximately 60-75 minutes.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes! I am currently in-network with Cigna, Independence, Aetna, and United Healthcare insurance carriers. I verify active coverage for all new clients prior to their first session, but am unable to guarantee coverage until claims are submitted and processed by your plan. If you hope to use insurance, I recommend contacting member services to see what nutrition counseling benefits you have before booking. For out-of-network carriers, I can provide you with a superbill to submit for possible reimbursement. And for all self-pay clients, my packaged programs are where you’ll get the most value for your money!

My packaged programs are specifically designed for self-pay clients and offer a clear path to your goals with a value-oriented combination of counseling sessions and supportive extras including meal planning, food journaling, and other helpful resources. Each program is defined by your level of commitment and offers all my support within that set time period.

If you’re going the insurance route, we’ll need to bill sessions individually, and supportive extras such as meal planning will be considered add-on services. Unsure of where you fit, or have questions before booking?? Feel free to set up a 15-Minute Discovery Call where we can chat before you move forward!

Should I choose a package or single session?
